Douglas Ryan Favero
Douglas Ryan Favero writes fiction, poetry and essays, and makes photographs. His fiction has appeared in Open: Journal of Arts & Letters, his photographs in The Wall Street Journal, Western Art & Architecture and El País México, and his essay on No Country for Old Men in The Cormac McCarthy Journal. His short film The Plums was an Official Selection of the Oaxaca Film Fest.
He has an MA in American Studies from Heidelberg University and has taught college-level culture and language for over 15 years. He grew up in central Illinois and has lived in Oaxaca since 2007.
The other day I woke up and I was 46 years old.
I looked at the wall to my right. The several novels I had published were gone.
What a horrible dream. I blinked.
Looked again.
Still not there.
I went downstairs and poured myself a cup of coffee.
I looked at the ceiling. Looked through it, to the bookshelf where the novels had surely reappeared.
Is this really my life? I took a long drink. I had to consider the possibility the books had never been there.
I put the cup down and headed out the door. I had to find them.
